Musing Monday ~ Where the Books Go

Today's Musing Monday asks:

If you keep your books, where do you keep them? And, if you give them away, who do you give them to? Do you participate in Bookcrossing, BookMooch, PaperbackSwap, or the like? Do you give your old books to family & friends, or donate them? Are any of your books in storage due to not having enough space for them all? Or, are you one of the lucky ones who has their own “library”? Feel free to share pictures, if you have them!

The books I keep are either on the book shelf in the office or the new one in my bedroom. I keep most of the books I get but a couple years ago I thinned out my collection. I sold some to the local used book store for credit, I sold some on half.com, and I gave some to Goodwill.

I also have given some of mine away from doing giveaways on this blog and I've lent some out to friends. Rather, just one friend who I know will take care of them! ;o)

Every time we move I get the "do we really need all these books" speech. My answer? Yes, "we" do! I don't have any stored right now. I was determined to get them all out of boxes so I built make-shift shelves in the office.

I haven't signed up for Bookmooch, PaperbackSwap, or any of those but have been meaning to check them out. I'm looking forward to see what everyone else says about these sites.

  1. Bookmooch is a good option. Most of my American friend swear by it!

    Mine is here!

  2. The only time I've been sorry about owning so many books is when I've had to pack them up and move them. Ugh!!! But I kept them anyway. Thankfully, I haven't moved in many years.

  3. I'm a lot like you! I've been meaning to check out BookMooch, but haven't done it yet. I have a hard tome letting go of my books. I LOVE them! lol I did trade some to the used book store but it was traumatic for me! I had seperation anxiety!

  4. I signed up for BookMooch a few weeks ago and... yeah, I'm obsessed with it. For about $2.50 (the cost to send out one of your own books to a Moocher via media mail) you'll get another book sent back to you! I've mailed out 13 and received eight new books so far. Definitely check it out, but be warned -- it's addictive!

  5. I try to weed when wee move, but 10 books out of 2,000 dosen't make that much difference. Thankfully my husband is even more of a book horder than I am, so I don't get any pressure there. I have had great experience with paperbackswap - found too many books there though.

  8. Hey girl! I recently joined Paperback swap, and I like it. I have been one who totally accumulates books. I have moved a lot in the past few years and I had to thin out my books because I just could not afford to move them all. Before Bookswap, I gave a lot of books to my old church for the rummage sales, thrift stores, and I used to frequent several used bookstores where I got store credit. I give books to friends and family too. With so many books out there, I simply cannot keep every one of them even though I have tried in the p ast. My husband is getting me another book shelf, and I am pretty stoked about it. I figure I'll work my way to filling it, and repeat my giving cycle. I think you would like Bookswap. I like Bookswap, because I get books for shipping.
