Booking Through Thursday ~ Presents

Today's Booking Through Thursday question is:

What, if any, memorable or special book have you ever gotten as a present? Birthday or otherwise. What made it so notable? The person who gave it? The book itself? The “gift aura?”

Well this is an interesting question because I rarely receive books as gifts. Right now I can only think of two books I've been given. One is Financial Peace by Dave Ramsey (first edition; from my mother-in-law when we first got married) and the other is Shiloh Autumn by Bodie and Brock Thoene (from my sister-in-law for Christmas one year). I didn't read either one of them right away (should have read Financial Peace sooner!), but I did read them. And I still have both of them.

I guess what made them notable is that they were actually given to me at all.

  1. Sweet! I guess you gift yourself with books most of the time like I do. Have a happy Thursday.

  2. Thanks for the info. The only trouble is that I could SO easily get hooked on these weekly things. I might have to ration myself! (Love your tag line!)

  3. I always receive books, but then I always ask for them. :-) I haven't read Dave Ramsey but probably should. I did read and enjoy Shiloh Autumn.

  5. Over the years my friends have cringed from giving me books for my birthday owing to my eclectic taste. I wish to express my desire for a bookstore gift-card but yet it sounds a bit inappropriate.

  6. I rarely receive books as gifts, even though I hint like crazy and leave book catalogues lying around open with all my choices circled in red! Of course, looking at the size of my TBR pile, I should probably be grateful my friends and family show such restraint.

  7. a finance book is a good idea for a couple just starting out; good thing you took it well and didn't think your MIL overstepped.
