Comes a Horseman by Robert Liparulo ~ Review

by

About the book:

When two FBI agents, Brady Moore and Alicia Wagner, are called to document a crime scene they have no idea that soon they will be running from a serial killer and fighting for their own lives. What seems like one man's twisted penchant for murder turns into something much, much deeper and can be traced back to thousands of years of watching and waiting for just such events. Signs of the Antichrist.

Their quest reveals a multi-faceted conspiracy and pushes them beyond the scope of their training. Nothing could have prepared them for the immense evil they encounter.

My thoughts:

Whew! What a wild ride! This is no light read and Robert Liparulo does a wonderful job of intertwining so many seemingly unrelated variables into one complex storyline. In the first part of the book I was confused on how everything was going to relate, but once the connection was introduced I was hooked and had to keep reading to find out more.

I have to honestly say I have mixed feelings on this one. I'm really not a fan of gory thrillers; love suspense, but not gore. So I wasn't partial to the gory murders and descriptions and there were a couple of places where I nearly put the book down because children were involved, but I'm glad I didn't and I'm glad Robert handled those situations the way he did.

However, Comes a Horseman certainly lives up to it's genre...it is a hold-your-breath, keep-the-lights-on, sleep-with-one-eye-open kind of thriller! If you're like me you might want to read it with one eye closed! But if you love graphic violence and intense thrillers with complex storylines, you'll be in for a treat.

If it sounds too intense for your taste don't walk away just yet. I recently read Robert's newest release,
Deadlock, and absolutely loved it! It is suspenseful and scary but without all the blood and guts (some blood, yes...guts, no). You can read my full review of it here and I highly recommend it.

Robert also has a Young Adult series going called the
Dreamhouse Kings Series. The fourth book is coming out next month. I haven't read them yet (because I'm waiting on #4 so I can read them all together and not have to wait impatiently for the next one!) but I've heard only wonderful things about the whole series and am looking forward to diving in.

  1. I love his books, but will skip this one. Deadlock is just as you described! I look forward to reading his YA books soon. Great review!
