Booking Through Thursday

This week for Booking Through Thursday we're asked:

I saw that National Library week is coming up in April, and that led to some questions. How often do you use your public library and how do you use it? Has the coffeehouse/bookstore replaced the library? Did you go to the library as a child? Do you have any particular memories of the library? Do you like sleek, modern, active libraries or the older, darker, quiet, cozy libraries?

I use the public library sporadically. When I had more time I would look at the online catalog and place books on hold, then go pick them up when they're ready. But I haven't done that in a long time. Mostly I take the kids a lot in the summer so they can check out books.

I don't remember going to the library very much as a child, but we lived out of town. I do remember when I was old enough I would go to work with mom and then walk down to the library sometimes. I enjoyed that.

As far as modern vs. older libraries, I guess I don't really have a preference. The library where we live now is old, dark and smelly (like old carpet) and I'm not fond of that. Also the floors creak really bad and people look at you when you make the floors creak. I don't mind the library being old, as long as it's not dark and smelly! :o)

  1. Our library is old, too! It makes for a pretty uninviting space. I visited the library a lot as a kid and when I was still a student, but haven't really been back since! I get stressed thinking about the deadlines on my reading.

  2. First off, I have to say that I love your header ;)

Secondly, I agree about some of the older libraries that are not maintained can make going to the library more like a chore than something enjoyable.

Thank you for sharing your post!

  3. At least your library just creaked, my library (when I was young) was in an old grocery store. The place always smelled like rotten food. Hope you have a wonderful Thursday. =)

  4. I was such a magnet to libraries when I was young. I still remembered that sensation of getting my library card---that felt so privileged and special!

I love reading my own books at the library these days! :) That said, I'm justified to visit my favorite bookstores almost every other day. But when I need to find out about new authors and reference materials, I turn to the library.

  5. Our library is temporarily relocated during the reonovation in a old grocery store and I was worried that it would be smelly, but it isn't.

  6. I love my local library!! My kids have such a fun time going there.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!!
